Clare Valley

Had a lovely time in the Clare Valley, stayed 4 nights at Auburn only 24 klms from Clare. Visited Sevenhills, Pikes, Annie's Lane, tasted and purchased some to keep us going on our trip.  Beautiful old stone wineries and lovely surroundings.

On Tuesday decided to have a visit to Adelaide, the weather was not very nice.  Had a good look around, even saw Colley Reserve at Glenelg beach!  The navigator took us on a "Cooks Tour" on our return journey to Auburn we saw some countryside not on the itinerary!!!

The next day went to the Barossa Valley, visited Kapunda, Nuriootpa and Tanunda all very quaint with beautiful old stone houses, shops, pubs etc.   Jacobs Creek winery was our only tasting for today.
Enjoyed Maggie Beers Farm Shop at Nuriootpa,  was crowded with people, some we're attending a cooking demonstration (not with Maggie) and Maggie was with a TV crew doing some filming as you can see from the picture Tone took.

Quorn

Arrived at Quorn on Friday arvo after very windy trip from Port Lincoln going through Cowell, Whyalla & Port Augusta, not very inspiring.  Aunty Maz advised a visit to Quorn and a ride on the historic 'Pitchi Richie' steam train which we did yesterday.  All the children would have loved it.

Had 2 nights at Quorn, first night walked over and looked around the very quaint old town with lots of lovely historic buildings that are very well maintained, had a couple of drinks at a pub and Dad won a meat raffle!!

Following our train ride had lunch at lovely cafe in town and the power went out, walked back to caravan in the rain and no power!!  Spent the rest of the afternoon waiting for power to come back on as the weather was not very nice and it was cold.

Set off this morning heading for the Clare Valley,  nice drive through lots of lovely little towns with beautiful old stone houses, stopped for a cupa along the way

Staying at Auburn about 24 klms from Clare.  Decided to make this stop for a couple of days and tour a few wineries, just a little out of town at the local oval.  Nice little park with just a few vans and nice friendly people

Port Lincoln

Had 2 nights at a lovely park over looking the bay, very scenic a bit like Albany.  Contacted Brad Giles who happened to be working up at Ceduna and not back until after we leave.  Enjoyed our stay, had great fish & chips for lunch watching a boat unload tuna

Eyre Peninsular 24/6/2014

Enjoyed our travels today, morning tea at Streaky Bay and a lovely walk along the jetty, spoke to a very weathered fisherman who catches shark out at sea (for fish & chips).  Very pretty place.

Next stop Murphys Haystacks south-east of Streaky Bay, a unique outcrop of pink granite boulders thought to be over 1500 million years old.  Have a great photos on my camera.  Well worth seeing and great view over the country side.

Agree with Shell, Port Kenny is the pits!  Certainly didn't waste any time there.

Venus Bay was picturesque, beautiful bay with 3 large fishing boats at the jetty, looked like lots of holiday homes and fish shacks.  Enjoyed sitting in our van having our lunch looking out at the bay, not nice weather today, windy and a few showers.

Next stop Elliston for a night.  Not a very big town, on Waterloo Bay a centre for cereal growing, mixed farming and a fishing community

                     Lunch at Venus Bay

Ceduna

Enjoyed our travels along the Nullabor, plenty of traffic both ways, especially fellow grey nomads.  Dad spoke to a man from NSW who counted 200 odd caravans heading West yesterday.  Decided to spend 2 nights here at Ceduna at Big 4  very nice clean facilities.  Cold & windy since last night, we are nice & cosy in the van have a small electric heater which is great.  Very pretty area of beach with beautiful large Norfolk Island pine trees & lawn along the Main Street near the jetty with plenty of white caps today with the wind.

Home to Border Village

All set to depart on Thursday 19/6 and found the ute battery flat!  Decided to wait for a new one to come from Bunbury considering our travels and the remoteness of the Nullarbor.  Finally set sail at 1.30 pm and went as far as Jerramungup and camped near the Fitzgerald River.  Devilled wine chops and a glass of red were very acceptable.

We made a very early start next morning (4.50) both in bed very early last night, still dark after Ravensthorpe (the spot lights work very well).  Arrived in Caiguna around 4.30 for the night.  Met Pauline Urquhart who goes to book club with Clare (I saw the KT number plate).

Very chilly morning turned into a beautiful day.  Staying at Border Village tonight, had a look at Eucla and Old Telegraph Station.  Tone happy we can watch the Dockers on our TV tonight.

Getting ready to go....

We are getting excited as we have finally set a date to set sail on our trip to the north of Australia.
We are leaving this Thursday and are headed for the Nullabour.  We haven't planned an exact journey but have a rough idea of where we want to go and a few thing we want to see.

Our daughters have helped us set up our blog and given us suggestions of places to go.  We have used this great book

We also have purchased this book

to help plan our trip and stops.

We look forward to keeping you posted of our journey as we travel around this beautiful country of ours.
